Dapper GQ Style
September is here, summer days are long gone in Nordic countries and it's time to banish those shorts and sunglasses. In Oslo we are at 12°C, there are key pieces to update your wardrobe, to enable an effortless transition into Fall chilly temperatures.
These are things that are very versatile and you can mix up in alot of different ways.
You might think I have alot of clothes, I don't. I just invest my money in quality pieces that will keep me looking successful and dapper everytime I wear them. I am tall and I like my clothes well fitted.
For fall all you need is 5 key clothing pieces with attention to detail, quality and natural fibers. What do I mean by that?
Attention to detail : Subtleties of cut, weave, or color distinguish the merely good from the well dressed. A small percentage of polyester in an oxford cloth shirt, a cashmere sweater with a blend of cheap nylon, pants that are a quarter inch too long or too wide will make all the difference in the world in making you look like you're trying to hard. Attention to detail is a must to making you look sharp, effortless, respectable and feeling confident.
Practicality: Your clothes should be sensible: rain clothes keep you dry; winter clothes keep you warm; collars are buttoned down so they dont flap around in your face when you're playing polo. Layering is a natural response to varying weather conditions.
Natural Fibers: Wool, cotton, silk, Cashmere are the only acceptable materials for a bulletproof wardrobe. They look better, they are key.
If you always look for these 3 quality in clothing you will wear clothes for 25 years and no one will tell the difference. The fabric, the colors, the cuts are the same same year after year. The secret is in buying smart vs. buying quantity every season and then having to throw it away because it has lost its shape or it has balls forming on the fabric. Invest in quality pieces that will have you looking dapper, feeling confident season after season, year after year.
I am not talking about spending $2000 in a Balenciaga cashmere sweater, I am talking about moving away from cheap deparment stores and start looking to invest your hard earned money in high-quality, well made pieces that will cost anywhere between $100 - $600 but will keep you looking sharp season after season. Save up, shop smart!
For this first look what I've done is a very relaxed dapper tailoring feel, we have these italian slim fit PT dark gray trousers that are really comfortable in a nice soft stretch wool, a and this Ralph Lauren slim fit dress shirt that just has this small green checkers details that adds this kind of edge to it.
Then you got your cardigan for the layer. I've gone here for a Gran Sasso Mens Cashmere cardigan with quite a relax neutral camel color with details inside the neck and the cuffs in light blue. To to give it that kind of slight formality then I decided to go for this Ferner Jacobsen wool tie with a pop of vivid green that just keeps it fresh and young to accomplish this kind of very comfortable look, very GQ style.
All the elements arevery soft and unstructured but it has a good overall relaxed formal feel to it and then just finished off by these classic black shoes by Magnani which gives it a very chic, classic overall look and feel, ready for pretty much any occasion.
What I wanted to show you here was the versatility of a cardigan as a layering device, I think its adds that extra polished dimension to any look. If you have long hair, pick it in a low man bun, I hope the style will work for you.
